as an Underdog employee i’m not going to opine too much on this other than typing out the word “facepalm” and mentioning that forcing your citizens to use grey and black market operators isnt a good idea.

i am not one of these US gambling purists who thinks prediction markets are bad.

FanDuel and DraftKings challenged status quo over a decade ago and have benefited to the tune of #1 and #2 in the US gambling market.

Kalshi and Polymarket are pushing the envelope today, and have found themselves in an incredibly strong position. of course the companies have legal and regulatory risk, but the upside is so high that this was worth pursuing if you’re a tech founder and disruptor.

from a business perspective i commend what they’ve done, and this recently announced raise adds more fuel to the fire.

i also just think it’s fun when the gambling space collides with big-boy venture investing.

i’ve seen this take from others but i’m fully bought in now: in a world where AI dominates the digital world, in-person moments, experiences, and relationships are going to be even more valuable.

people are going to crave genuine connection and real emotion more than ever.

tactically, as an employee or just someone in business, i think becoming someone who can light up a room and make people feel good is an elite skill. new businesses will also form IRL as new generations grow up in this strange new digital environment.
